Roland Foods Tahini Pulled Off Shelves Due to Salmonella Tests
We've got some important news to share, especially if you love sesame seeds. Roland Foods LLC, which is based in New York City, is recalling a specific type of their sesame seed product because it might have Salmonella. This is not good since Salmonella can make people really sick.
The recall is all about Roland Tahini, which is 100% Ground Sesame Seeds in 16-ounce bottles. It's because of a test done by the Michigan Department of Agriculture that found the chance of Salmonella. To make sure no one gets sick, Roland Foods has stopped sending out these bottles and they're working hard to figure out how this happened.
So, here's the scoop on which bottles we're talking about: Roland Tahini in 16 oz bottles, with a Batch Number that reads P024581, a Production Code of X0419, and a UPC Number of 10041224701509. The date when it's best by is October 19, 2024. You can find the UPC under the bottle's barcode, or the Production Code and Best By Date are right on the label at the top of the bottle in black ink.
Good news is, as of February 24th, Roland Foods hasn't heard of anyone getting sick from their tahini. But they're saying if you have this product at home, please don't eat it. Throw it away to be safe. If you have questions, you can call their Recall Hotline at 800-622-1823.
Now a little bit about Salmonella infections. It's tricky because food with Salmonella doesn't look, smell, or taste bad. It can make anyone sick, but it's really tough on babies, older folks, and people who are already not feeling well. If you eat something with Salmonella, you might not feel good and can have a tummy ache, diarrhea, and a fever in about 12 to 72 hours after eating it. Usually, healthy people get better in like a week but sometimes it's so bad you might need to go to the hospital.
What's important to remember is to talk to a doctor if you feel sick after eating recalled products because you need special tests to know if it's actually Salmonella. Some people might not even feel sick but can still pass it on to others.
To stay healthy and happy, let's be careful about what we eat and make sure to check if you have this tahini at home. Stay safe, everyone!
