We Rank 20 of In-N-Out's Secret Menu Items

Think you know In-N-Out? Think again! We’ve created a list of menu items you can order right from the register and some that require a little assembly.

Imagine a burger stacked with patties, a milkshake with three flavors in one, or fries smothered in cheese and goodness. Sounds epic, right? Well, that's the In-N-Out secret menu!

Keep this list handy; share it with your friends and family, and enjoy the In-n-Out experience.

Editors Note: My personal favorite is to get an order of “Cheese fries with a Flying Dutchman cut in 4 on top”. The flavors of the fries and patty are perfect! 😋

20. Double Meat

Double the patty, double the delight! You'll get two beef patties along with all the usual fixings like tomatoes, lettuce, and cheese.

19. 3×3

Also called the Triple Triple, the 3x3 is a burger stacked with three beef patties and you’ve got three slices of American cheese to go with it!

18. 4×4

The 4x4, also known as the "Quad Burger," is just like the 3x3 but with four patties and four slices of American cheese.

17. Grilled Cheese

Looking for something other than a burger? No problem! Try the grilled cheese instead. It's a delicious option with two slices of melted American cheese between toasted burger buns. And if you want toppings, just remember to ask for them separately!

16. Protein Style

Even though it's called "Protein Style," it's not just about protein. When you’re on a low-carb diet, asking for “Protein Style” means you'll get your food wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun.

15. Animal Style Burger

This burger is loaded with extras: there's fried mustard (a special thing at In-N-Out), grilled onions, pickles, and extra Thousand Island spread all piled on top of your regular burger patty.

14. Patty Melt

Here's how you order it: ask for a Double Double Animal Style without lettuce and tomato, and tell them to "Reverse the Buns". It's super crispy outside, just the right amount of meat, cheesy, with grilled onions, spread, and pickles. Not all IN-N-OUTs may make it, but it's worth a try. And no, it won't ruin the burger!

Just be careful, the extra toast might scratch your mouth. Also, if they won't make it, you can try getting a Flying Dutchman and putting it together yourself.

We did this Patty Melt ‘off off menu’ hack which turned out delicious:

13. Scooby Snack

It's more like a snack than a big meal. It's called the Scooby Snack at In-N-Out. When you order it, you get one grilled beef patty. Yum!

Why is it called a Scooby Snack? Well, if you're a fan of cartoons, you know Scooby-Doo loved his snacks. They weren't big meals, just little treats. So, that's why it's called the Scooby Snack!

12. Flying Dutchman

It's so popular that it’s one of the most asked-about secret menu items from In-N-Out's. Here's how to get it: Ask for two slices of cheese melted between two beef patties, without bun or lettuce.

11. Animal-Style Fries

The Animal-Style Burger is super popular, and it has a famous sibling called the Animal-Style Fries. Many In-N-Out fans know about this tasty treat, even though it's not officially on the menu. It's fries topped with cheese, their special spread, and grilled onions.

10. Cheese Fries

Not in the mood for all the extras? Skip the sauce and toppings—these fries will only have melted American cheese on them.

9. Wish Burger

Hey vegetarians, here's some good news. Even if you don't eat meat, you can still enjoy a burger at In-N-Out Burger. It's not officially on the menu, but you can ask for a "veggie burger" or a "Wish Burger." It's basically all the toppings you'd find on a regular burger, like tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, and onions, but without the beef patty.

8. Doggy Style

At In-N-Out, "Doggy Style" means getting a grilled cheese wrapped in lettuce instead of buns, also known as “protein style”. But it also means your grilled cheese comes loaded with fries inside!

7. Extra Toast

If you want your bun extra crispy, just ask for it "extra toast" when you order. That way, the folks at In-N-Out will cook it a bit longer on the grill. And guess what? It won't cost you anything extra for that extra crunch.

6. Flying Dutchman Animal Style

Looking to customize your Flying Dutchman? Requesting it Animal Style means they'll add onions to the melted cheese. You'll get the pickles and spread on the side, but we suggest putting them directly on the burger yourself for the best taste.

5. Onion Bun

If you're a fan of onions, try asking for whole grilled onions on your burger instead of the bun. It adds a deliciously savory taste, but be prepared—it can get pretty messy!

4. Neapolitan Shake

The Neapolitan Shake is a blend of three traditional ice cream flavors: chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. If you can't get it at In-N-Out, you can order all three flavors separately and mix them yourself in a cup. It's a trick some people use at McDonald's too!

3. Roadkill Fries

When you can't decide between fries or a burger, why not have both? Order the combo: it includes a basket of animal fries topped with a flying Dutchman, which is two burger patties with two slices of cheese. Some locations might find this order a bit tricky, so if they can't do it together, just ask for the animal fries and flying Dutchman separately.

2. Root Beer Float

Why stick to plain soda when you can level up with a Root Beer float? Just ask for a half cup of root beer with a swirl of vanilla milkshake on top. It's a simple trick that adds a whole lot of flavor!

1. Tomato Wrap

Just like Protein Style, that swaps buns for lettuce, the Tomato Wrap is a burger with tomato slices instead of regular buns.

Remember, these items aren't on the regular menu, so you gotta be in the know and some of them may require you to assemble yourself.

P.S. Be kind to the busy In-N-Out team, and they'll be happy to help you unlock the secret menu magic! ✨
